Mangaluru, Aug 15: St Agnes School CBSE in commemorated the 78th Independence Day with profound patriotism and fervour on the August 15. The occasion witnessed active participation from students, teachers, and parents, collectively expressing reverence for the nation on this momentous day.

The festivities commenced with a dignified procession where the joint secretary of St Agnes Institutions, Sr Dr Maria Roopa AC, and the esteemed chief guest, Liston Derric D’Souza, the PTA vice president, were accompanied to the flag post by Sr Meena Fernandes AC, the vice principal, and coordinator of St Agnes preparatory school Sr Letitia AC. Notably, the procession was led by the school's remarkable band, under the leadership of head girl, Joanna Pereira.

The event commenced with a student-led prayer, followed by the ceremonial unfurling of the national flag by the chief guest, underscoring the significance of the occasion. Subsequently, attendees transitioned to the school auditorium for a cultural programme, commencing with a devotional prayer service. This was succeeded by an elegant welcome dance accompanied by melodic tunes, and a gracious welcome address delivered by Riya Rajesh from grade IX.

A stirring action song on patriotism was performed by grade III students, paying homage to freedom fighters through a poignant enactment. The programme also featured a fusion dance honouring the nation’s courage, alongside a dance drama embodying reverence and pride for India.

During his address, Liston D’Souza commended the students for their impactful performances and expressed gratitude for the sincere homage paid to the nation. Emphasizing the goal of creating a drug-free India, he underscored the importance of this mission for the younger generation. Liston urged everyone to commemorate Independence Day as a tribute to the indomitable sacrifices of our freedom fighters.

The patriotic ambiance that pervaded the event heightened the spirit of the occasion. The programme was adeptly hosted by Fathima Alisha and Joyline Sequeira, with Riyana Miranda delivering a gracious vote of thanks, acknowledging the participation and dedication of all. The event culminated with the rendition of the school anthem and the distribution of sweets.
