Mangaluru: Fresher’s Day 2024 organised by St Agnes College

Mangaluru, Aug 13: St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, celebrated its Fresher’s Day 2024 at the Centenary auditorium, embracing the theme “Global Gala – Uniting Cultures at Agnes” on August 10.” The theme revolved around the diversity of traditions from the world, fostering a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere for the first-year students. This event aimed to create a sense of unity and excitement, integrating new students into the college community while showcasing global cultures. They emphasized on cultural exploration, talent showcases, and community building made it an enjoyable and significant occasion for everyone involved.

The highlight of the day was the Global Harmony Showcase, which included Spain, Africa, France, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, India, Korea, and Mexico displaying and contributing to colourful and dynamic cultures of global diversity. Richard from I BCA provided feedback and expressed appreciation for the student council’s efforts and activities conducted which had greatly facilitated their integration and made them feel welcomed into the college community.

Sr Dr M Venissa AC, the principal, addressed the first-year students, congratulating the winners of various events and offering words of inspiration. She encouraged the students to embrace every opportunity and challenges provided and highlighted the importance of building it up from their college experiences.

Several competitions where planned which included:

• ART MEETS TECHNOLOGY: A digital poster-making competition that showcased students’ artistic skills in the digital age.
• REEL RUSH: A creative competition for short video reels, with winning reels featured on the Agnes Diaries page.
• PITCH PINNACLE: A platform for students to showcase their vocal talents.
• MIND CLASH: A display of intellectual and persuasive abilities, where ideas clashed and arguments soared.
• MOVIE SPOOF: A humorous competition where students recreated movies in an entertaining manner.
• BEAT THE BEST: A dance competition allowing students to showcase their rhythm and dance skills.
• FASHION SHOW: A runway event focused on sustainability, incorporating the five elements of life.

Class-wise competitions further enriched the event, including activities such as the Snap and Sync Reel Challenge, Heritage Created 3D Model Making Competition, Culture Couture Runway, and Global Harmony. These competitions ensured students to better understand one another, fostering a sense of camaraderie. The Mr and Ms Fresher competition, which featured seven rounds assessing various skills, concluded with Nabhan Muzzafar of BCom ACCA winning Mr Fresher and Sakshi Shetty of BSc as Ms Fresher. Both winners were awarded trophies and certificates, recognizing their diverse skills and achievements.

The event began with an invocation of divine blessings through a prayer, setting a tone of reverence and anticipation for the day ahead. The presence of esteemed guests, including Sr Dr M Venissa AC, principal; Sr Roopa AC, vice-principal; and Sr Carmel Rita AC, administrator added significance to the occasion. The auditorium was also filled with faculty members and enthusiastic freshers, all eager to partake in the celebrations. The day concluded with fun games organized by the student council, providing additional entertainment and allowing attendees to relax and socialize after the day’s activities. Overall, Fresher’s Day 2024 was a resounding success, offering a memorable start to the academic year for the first year students.
