Puttur, 10 Aug: St Philomena College concluded a comprehensive induction programme on Thursday with a valedictory event, which was organized by the staff development and appraisal cell, that focused on enhancing the teaching skills of its new faculty members. Over the course of four days, the programme offered a total of 14 training sessions covering a wide range of topics, including innovative teaching methods suitable for higher education, the significance of research, and addressing the challenges faced by adolescent students.
The principal of St Philomena College, Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, presided over the event and said, “A teacher should consolidate all his abilities and work hard for the all-round development of students. Treat students with respect and inspire them”. He highlighted the dual benefits of the programme, aiding new lecturers in transitioning from students to educators, while also providing a platform for seasoned faculty to share insights with their junior peers.
Dr Vijaya Kumar Moleyar, the vice-principal, echoed the sentiment, noting the invaluable role such training plays in career development. Dr Malini K, dean of science faculty and IQAC coordinator, extended her congratulations to all participants, expressing optimism about their future contributions to academia.
Various educators from the college actively participated in the sessions, including Dr Vijay Kumar, Dr Malini K, Premalatha K, Dr Chandrashekhar K, Vinayachandra, Dr Radhakrishna Gowda, Vasudeva N, Bharathi S Rai, Geeta Poornima K, Pratibha, Srimani, Dr Edwin D’Souza, Vipin Naik, and Prashant Rai. The program featured in-depth lectures by Neelam Kuttappa and Shivani Mallya, who delved into topics pertinent to their fields of expertise. Their teaching methodologies were critically evaluated, with senior faculty members providing constructive feedback.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome from Dr Edwin D’Souza, convener of the staff development and appraisal cell. Insights into the impact of the programme were shared by Shivani Mallya, Dr Maitri Bhat, and Vinil Rohan Dsouza. Prithvi proposed vote of thanks and Fatima Sanida compered.
