Puttur, Aug 10: The Junior Red Cross unit, in collaboration with the Rovers and Rangers unit and humanities association, organized a celebration of 'Philo Aatida Kuuta' at St Philomena PU College, Puttur, on August 10. The event showcased Tuluva traditional foods and cultural reflections, highlighting the rich heritage and diversity of the region.
The dignitaries inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. The president, Fr Ashok Rayan Crasta, principal of St Philomena PU College, Puttur, emphasized that Tulu nadu is a land of unity in diversity. He encouraged students to work hard and earn good reputation in the society.
The chief guest, Yaksha Bolli, Dinesh Rai, Kadaba, spoke about the significance of 'Aati', a time of heavy rainfall, and its associated challenges. He also highlighted the importance of 'Agel,' a system of offering meals to ancestors, a religious belief of the Tuluva people. He encouraged students to prioritize relationships and protect their values.
The guest of honour, Kusalda Raje, Sundara Rai, Mandara, appreciated the students' discipline and emphasized the college's role in shaping their future. He advised students to avoid excessive mobile phone use and focus on their goals.
Dr Prakash B, vice president, PTA, stressed the importance of preserving traditions and family values. He wished students success in their studies and extracurricular activities. Kusalda Gurikare, Dinesh Shettigar, Koodapadavu and Yaksha Telike Savyasachi, Prajwal Kumar, Guruvayankere were present on the occasion.
Haasya Vaibhava (festival of laughter) was performed by Yaksha Bolli, Dinesh Rai, Kadaba,Kusalda Raje, Sundara Rai, Mandara, Kusalda Gurikare, Dinesh Shettigar, Koodapadavu, Yaksha Telike Savyasachi, Prajwal Kumar, Guruvayankere, Prashanth Rai, lecturer St Philomena College, Puttur and Sharath Alva, lecturer St Philomena PU College, Puttur. Pranav, Kasaragod with Chande and Shridhara, Vittal with Madale followed by the cultural programmes performed by the students.
The programme was co-ordinated by the convenors of Philo Red Cross unit - Jyothi M, department of sociology and Rajesh Mooliya, physical education director. Convenors of Philo Rovers and Rangers unit, Chandraksha, department of computer science, Sharath Alva, department of history, Sandesh John Lobo, department of English and Poornima DS, department of statistics.
