Mangaluru, Aug 5: The National Service Scheme (NSS) units of St Agnes College (Autonomous) hosted an inaugural ceremony of NSS and celebrated 'Aatidonji Dina' on August 3. The event aimed to foster community service, celebrate cultural heritage, and strengthen unity among volunteers.
The chief guest, Veena T Shetty, retired general manager (training), spoke about the value of volunteerism and community service. She shared how her NSS experience had enhanced her confidence and contributed to her personal growth. Veena Shetty highlighted the significance of 'Aatidonji Dina', a festival celebrating the monsoon season, agricultural heritage, and cultural traditions of Karnataka's coastal regions.
A PowerPoint presentation showcased the NSS volunteers' activities and achievements. Following the inauguration, the celebration of 'Aatidonji Dina' included a cultural festivity rooted in Tulu Nadu traditions, bringing together students and faculty to honour the monsoon season.
NSS volunteers performed a song and dance reflecting the importance of cultural heritage. The guests and volunteers enjoyed a lunch featuring seasonal, traditional, and nutritionally rich Tulu Nadu cuisine prepared by the NSS volunteers.
The programme began with a prayer song performed by NSS volunteers. The event was attended by Sr Roopa Rodrigues, vice principal, Dr Udaya Kumar, Preetha Tauro (NSS programme officers), KM Chethana, and Dilsun (assistant NSS programme officers).
