Mangaluru, Jul 31: With the aim of spreading awareness and encouraging healthy lifestyles among students, Lourdes Central School organised its annual Health and Fitness Week from July 22 to 27.
The event was inaugurated by Fr Johnson L Sequeira, the principal, Belita Mascarenhas and Anita Thomas, the vice principals, along with Fr Arul, by taking an oath for healthy living and cherishing nutritious food prepared by the students.
The students were inspired by various ways in which a healthy lifestyle can be incorporated into their regular routines through a healthy habits pledge and diverse activities. Daily assemblies imparted knowledge about various themes like physical fitness, dental health and hygiene, psychological health, the value of nutritious food, and the effects of fast food on health.
In collaboration with the medical faculty of Kasturba Medical College and Father Muller Medical College Mangaluru, a health checkup was conducted to ensure the well-being of all Lourdites. A series of health awareness talks and sessions were organised for students from classes I to XII on topics such as making healthy food choices, healthy eating habits, understanding allergies, puberty and physical changes, digital habits, healthy relationships, and career and health balance. The participation of students was commendable as they expressed their thoughts and sought clarifications of doubts.
Awareness of fitness was promoted through a video shown in every class, instilling a sense of healthy living in students. Thought-provoking slogans and quotes on health and fitness adorned the notice boards, showcasing the talent and creativity of students. The staff enrichment programme by Dr Rashmi D’Souza created a deep sense of health and fitness boost in every staff member's lifestyle.
The highlight of the Health and Fitness Week was the active participation of Lourdite families, who presented a one-minute visual of preparing a healthy delicacy as a family.
The principal expressed appreciation for all the staff members for their great coordination and commitment to the success of the Health and Fitness Week. Lourdes Central School remains a monumental support for students to strive hard and attain good health.
