Mangaluru, Jul 26: The orientation programme for undergraduate programs 2024 at Srinivas University was held on July 24 at 10 am at Hotel Srinivas. The event aimed to welcome and acclimate new students to the university’s academic environment and culture. It was organized by the Institute of Computer Science & Information Sciences to introduce students to the institution’s ethos and available resources, ensuring a smooth transition into university life.
The event commenced with the welcoming of guests and dignitaries, setting a warm and inviting atmosphere. A brief introduction about the orientation programme highlighted its purpose and significance for new students. This was followed by a prayer song to invoke blessings, creating a harmonious start to the event. The welcome address was delivered by Dr Subrahmanya Bhat, dean of ICIS, who extended greetings to all attendees and emphasized the importance of the orientation in easing students into their new academic journey.
Distinguished guests were honored with a floral welcome, a traditional gesture of respect and appreciation. The lighting of the lamp ceremony was conducted next, symbolizing the dispelling of darkness and the ushering in of knowledge and wisdom, marking the official start of the programme.
Dr Satyanarayan Reddy, vice chancellor of Srinivas University, provided an insightful introduction to the university. The program continued with an oath-taking ceremony led by Prof Er A Mitra S. Rao, a member of the Board of Governors. Day 2 of the Orientation Programme for Undergraduate Students 2024 at Srinivas University was held on July 25, at Hotel Srinivas, Mangaluru. The day was structured to provide students with essential insights and guidance for their academic and professional journeys, featuring two key sessions that addressed significant aspects of student life and future career development.
Session 1: College to Corporate
The first session, titled “College to Corporate,” was led by Prof Shwetha Pai, the Placement Training Officer (PTO) at Srinivas University. This session was designed to prepare students for the transition from academic life to the corporate world. Prof. Pai delivered an insightful and inspiring presentation, emphasizing the skills and competencies required to succeed in a professional environment. She highlighted the importance of effective communication, teamwork, and adaptability in the workplace. Prof Pai also shared tips on resume building, interview techniques, and networking strategies, encouraging students to start thinking about their career paths early in their university life. The session aimed to equip students with the necessary tools and mindset to navigate the corporate landscape successfully.
Session 2: Drug Awareness and Cyber Crime
The second session focused on “Drug Awareness/NDPS Act and Cyber Crime” and was conducted by Maruthi, a police sub-inspector from the Cyber Economic & Narcotic Police Station in Mangaluru City. This session aimed to educate students about the dangers of drug abuse and the legal implications under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Maruthi provided an enlightening talk on the various types of drugs, their effects on health and well-being, and the importance of staying away from substance abuse. In addition to drug awareness, Maruthi also addressed the growing concern of cybercrime. He explained common cyber threats, how to protect personal information online, and the legal consequences of engaging in cybercriminal activities. The session was interactive, with students actively participating and asking questions about how to safeguard themselves against these threats.
