Udupi, Jul 20: Due to a temporary stay by the high court (HC), the second additional district and sessions court of Udupi has postponed the trial of the Nejar mother and three children murder case to August 24. This decision was made on July 18.
Praveen Chougule, the accused in the murder case, had filed a petition in the HC requesting the transfer of the trial to a court in Bengaluru, citing threats to himself and his lawyers. The judge, upon reviewing the petition, issued an order to stay the proceedings in the Udupi court until the next hearing.
As a result, the trial scheduled for July 18 in the second additional district and sessions court of Udupi has been postponed to August 24, according to sources. During this period, Praveen Chougule, who is in judicial custody in a Bengaluru jail, was presented before the court via video conference.
