Mangalore, Oct 24: James Lopes of Honnavar has been chosen for the ‘Mandd Sobhann, Thomas Stephen’s Konknni Kendr - Carvalho Gharanne’ Kalaakaar Puraskaar – 2011 for his unique contribution to Konkani art form.
The award which consists of a cash prize of Rs 25,000, a citation, and a trophy will be conferred to James at Kalaangann, Shaktinagar on November 6.
James is heading the Mother Theresa Brass Band which was established in the year 1994. He is multifaceted personality and has established himself as a singer, writer, drama artist and an actor. Being an expert key board player he has taken part in various orchestras including Henry Nite, Antony nite, Victor nite among others. He has written 8 dramas out of which two have fetched him top honours. The Brass Band is popular in Uttar Kannada, Mangalore as well as Udupi.
On the same occasion Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy’s news president Kasargod Chinna will be felicitated.
