Mangaluru, Dec 23: To create awareness among the student body about etiquette on the road, Carmel School organized a service learning activity on road safety for the students of class III, IV and V, and was hosted by class III A, B and C on December 19.
The programme commenced with a prayer song sung by the students of class 3 at Mother Veronica Hall which invoked god’s blessings on the attendees.
The chief guests for the occassion were ACP Geetha Kulakarni, inspector Jagannath , PSI Manjula, staff Chaya, Kaveri, H Babu. The guest of honour, Geetha Kulakarni, in her eloquent speech, stressed on road safety and documents such as insurance, RC book and emission test records.
Hiranya stressed on green cross code i.e. stop, look, listen, think and then cross, understanding road signs, road safety rules and the ways, to protect themselves and others on the road. Basic awareness about vehicle, defensive driving according to weather and road conditions, wearing seat belts, consequences of over-speeding, awareness programmes were discussed as an effective measures of road safety. The students had actively participated in the discussion and they were also encouraged to make their near and dear ones aware of road safety rules.
As a practical experience, the students were accompanied by the professionals to attend a demonstration on road safety measures at Pandeshwar police station.
Ashwitha effectively compered the programme and welcomed the gathering. Thriveni proposed the vote of thanks. Sandhya coordinated the programme.
