Mangaluru, Dec 9: On December 2, the students of Manipal School, Attavar, were treated to a captivating performance by the renowned Kinnara Mela theatre group. The esteemed event unfolded at the Marena Sports Complex, providing students from grade 5 to 11 with a rare opportunity to witness the much-acclaimed play, ‘Anne Frank’s Diary’, presented in Kannada. Kinnara Mela, Tumari, known for its significant contributions to children's theatre, particularly in rural schools, showcased its theatrical prowess.

The proceedings were gracefully guided by Sinchana Ulavi, an eighth-grade student who served as the event's compere. The inauguration commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by school Principal Anuradha Shivaram and members of the Kinnara Mela crew. Nida Mariyam Aqhila, a seventh-grade student, extended a warm welcome address. The crew members were greeted with flowers by the principal.

Without delay, the talented theatre crew took centre stage, immersing the students in their rendition of the timeless classic, ‘Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl.’ The dramatization, skilfully crafted by H K Ramachandramurthy, and the meticulous design and direction by Salian Umesh Narayan, held the audience's attention for an enthralling hour. The brilliant performances by the entire acting crew ensured that the students remained engaged throughout the play.

Theatre opens students up to experiencing different perspectives and entails paying attention to what is happening on stage and identifying with the characters. This rare opportunity to watch a play in Kannada was indeed cherished by the students. The event reached its culmination on a high note, marked by a gracious vote of thanks delivered by Sanchay C Bangera, a ninth-grade student. The collective efforts of the Kinnara Mela theatre group and the school left an unforgettable impression on all attendees, making the event an enriching experience.

“The play beautifully depicted the struggles of the Jewish people during the time when Germany was taken over by Hitler and the Nazi Party. The artistes did justice to each and every character they portrayed, keeping us entertained through their acting skills,” said Sairam of grade 11 (PCMB).

Mallika Harish said, “The play was very good. With a limited resource, the team has put up a good show. The actors are from different places in Karnataka. They had good coordination. I wish for them to keep continuing with the same energy.”
