Udupi, Nov 3: Dakshina Kannada district won the overall championship in the state level under 14 boys and girls sports meet organized by Udupi district administration, zilla panchayat, in association with St Cecily’s High School, Udupi.
Bellary team and Bengaluru team won the championship in the boys' and girls' category respectively. Durgesh of Raichur and Gowri Poojary of Belgavi won the individual championship.
The valedictory and prize distribution ceremony was held in District Sports Grounds, Ajjarkad on November 3.
Vinay Kumar Sorake, former MLA was the chief guest for the valedictory program. In his address, he said, “This event has been organized in a very disciplined manner by the St Cecily’s High School team. Sports should go along with the studies. This ground was created with a view to create future sportspersons of our country. Oscar Fernandes and others have immensely worked for the creation of this ground. St Cecily’s Educational Institutions, a prominent one, took the helm of this state level sports meet and has executed the responsibilities in a very disciplined manner."
Gopal Shetty, former district physical director was honoured on the occasion.
Ganapthi K, DDPI, presided over the program.
