Mangaluru, Nov 3: Manel Srinivas Nayak Institute of Management, Bondel, in association with Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), hosted MRPL-MSNIM ‘Vigilance Awareness Competitions 2023’ for students as a part of MRPL’s vigilance awareness week. The theme for this year, ‘Say no to corruption, commit to the nation.’ Vigilance awareness week is observed every year to raise public awareness about corruption and encourage all stakeholders to collectively fight against it.
The competitions comprised of quiz (online and offline), poster making, essay, street play and elocution. There was an overwhelming response for the competitions. The students from 31 degree colleges in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have participated in the event, which was held on October 27 at the institute campus in Bondel.
Dr Rudolph V J Noronha, general manager (corporate communications), MRPL, was the chief guest during the inauguration ceremony. Manel Annappa Nayak, president, Women’s National Education Society (WNES), presided over the programme. Jimmy Jaisingh Malik, chief manager (Vigilance), MRPL, administered the integrity pledge. Noopur Kaushik Bhalla, senior manager (Vigilance), MRPL, gave a briefing on the programme.
In his address, Dr Rudolph V J Noronha appreciated the support extended by MSNIM in all ‘Vigilance Awareness’ endeavours of MRPL for the past five years. “MRPL strives hard to reach out to the youth by sharing knowledge on ways of upholding virtues in life and being vigilant about one’s life choices, which will enhance the prevention of corruption in and around a person, organisation, and society as a whole,” he said.
In his presidential address, Manel Annappa Nayak stressed the importance of being a good and responsible citizen as the path to achieving one's goals. MRPL’s chief general manager (Vigilance) Lakshmeesh Bhat, chief manager (Vigilance) Rakesh Lobo, senior manager (Vigilance) Dibyendu Saha, Suresh Pai, vice president, WNES, and secretary and institute correspondent Jeevandas Narayan were present.
Dr Molly S Chaudhuri, director, MSNIM, welcomed the gathering. Amrutha, Kavya, and Sriraksha rendered the invocation. Dr Shilpi Saha, assistant professor, gave the vote of thanks. Dr Deepa V, assistant professor, compered the programme.
Ganesh S Bhat, chief vigilance officer, MRPL, was the chief guest for the valedictory programme and prize distribution ceremony, which were held in the evening. Manel Annappa Nayak, president, Women’s National Education Society (WNES), presided over the programme.
In his address, Ganesh S Bhat spoke about combating corruption with e-payments. He urged the younger generation to take up the responsibility to fight corruption on a personal and organisational level. “India ranks 132 among 191 countries in the human development index 2023. It is important to improve the happiness index among individuals as happiness is directly proportional to anti-corruption. In order to reduce corruption, one should teach the younger generation to focus on being happy rather than rich,” he said.
Archana Kamath, assistant professor, welcomed the gathering. Dr Shilpi Saha, assistant professor, gave a report on the programme. Nanditha Sunil, assistant professor, conducted the prize distribution ceremony. Dibyendu Saha, senior manager (Vigilance), MRPL, gave the vote of thanks.
