Mangaluru, Oct 21: St Theresa’s School, Bendoor, held its annual sports meet at Mangala Stadium. The chief guest, Chetan R, principal of Hebich Technical Training Institute, Mangaluru, hoisted the flag. Addressing the gathering, he observed that sport plays a vital role in the all-round development of every child. “Sports is not only a part of education, but it also inculcates discipline in students,” he said. Presiding over the programme, Sr Shaila, the school correspondent, wished all the athletes the best.
Advocate Udayanand A was the chief guest during the closing ceremony in the evening. Addressing the gathering, he said that sports help maintain physical and mental balance. It helps to develop good leadership qualities.
Students of the school participated enthusiastically in various sports activities. Lirone Mendonca won the individual championship. He bagged prizes in the 200-metre race (senior 1st place), 400-metre race (senior 1st place), long jump (senior 1st place), 400-metre relay (1st place), football (1st place), and basket ball (2nd place).
The school principal, Sr Lourdes, welcomed. Teacher Ritty D'Souza proposed a vote of thanks. Teachers Veena Lasrado and Shanti presented the programme. Sr Donna, superior of Bethany's parent institution; Sr Jaslin; the school vice principal Sr Reena; Sujith Noronha, vice president of the Parent Teachers' Association of the school and others were present.
