Mangaluru, Sep 27: The Yenepoya School organized AICS Football Tournament – Kick Off ChampYENs at Yenepoya soccer ground at Yenepoya University, and Father Muller Homeopathic Hospital Ground September 25-26.
The event witnessed a huge participation of over 500 players from 32 teams from Dakshina Kannada district. Boys and girls in the under-17 category were involved in the competition. Dr Abhishek Shetty, associate professor, department of orthopedics, YMCH, was the chief guest. Principal of The Yenepoya School & PU College, Uzwal Menezes, staff, parents, the participating teams and their mentors were present for the inaugural ceremony that took place at Yenepoya soccer ground.
The programme began with a prayer that was followed by the recitation of the school anthem. Principal Uzwal Menezes welcomed the gathering. The dignitaries were introduced to the participating teams and the chief guest declared the tournament open with the kick off. The tournament flagged off with the inaugural match between the girls’ teams of Carmel School, Mangaluru and Delhi Public School, Surathkal. The contest was intense and the sound of cheering by the audience for their special teams reverberated around the ground. Simultaneous matches were conducted for girls and boys.
It was a moment of great excitement to witness Delhi Public School, Surathkal, lift the winner’s trophy in the category, under-17 girls, followed by Mount Carmel Central School as the runner-up team marking the end of day one. A series of thrilling and remarkable matches continued the next day too.
The finals of under-17 boys took place on September 26, between The Yenepoya School and Milagres Central School and finally, it was The Yenepoya School that emerged victorious keeping their winning streak alive. TYS deemed it as a great pleasure in hosting the AICS football tournament, Kick Off ChampYENs 2023 and announced it as a resounding success.
