Puttur, 28 June: St Philomena College celebrated College Annual Day on June 27 at the SJM Hall of the College. Correspondent of the College Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas presided over the function and said that the students need to prudently utilize every facility available in the college along with necessary values for life. Students should have pride about the institution and should act in a way which would bring respect from every dimension.” Principal of the College Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro presented the brief report of the activivities held in the ongoing year.
Chief guest Dr Kishore Kumar C K, registrar of Mangalore University said, "An institution plays a significant role in the life of a student. If one is a sports person, he or she has to encounter a lot of challenges in life. It is possible to face any situation when one participates in sports. It is possible to visualize a nation and let the students be great citizens of the nation. Liesure is to be exploited for useful tasks in the best possible way to enjoy a happy life."
Professor Udaya K former vice principal and dean of Mathematics, Dr Edwin S D’souza of department of Chemistry for obtaining PhD, Dimple M Tauro, of Hindi department for securing rank in Hindi MA, Yashavantha G Nayak coordinator of PG department of Commerce for securing I rank in MA, Economics and Fr Stany Pinto, department of English for securing VI rank in MA, Public Administration were honoured on the occasion.
Guests of honour Fr Stany Pinto, campus director and Fr Ashok Rayan Crasta, principal St Philomena PU College graced the occasion with their presence. Gerald D’Costa, vice president Maide Deus Parish Pastoral Committee, PTA president Krishna prasad Alva, Alumni Association president A Jagajeevandas Rai, Student Council president Mohammad Ashiq, secretary Anushree and joint secretary Shivani were present on the dais.
Students of Performing Arts rendered prayer. Vice principals Dr A P Radhakrishna welcomed. Professor Ganesh Bhat, vice principal and dean of Science Faculty and Harshith K, assistant professor PG Department of Commerce gave felicitation speeches. Dr Malini proposed vote of thanks. Dr Chandrashekhar, department of Physics compered the ceremony. Members of the Management Committee, members of Alumni Association, members of PTA and heads of the sister institutions were present to grace the occasion.
Cultural programme followed the formal programme. Students presented various dance forms like classical, semi classical dances yakshagaana, dance drama, solo. duet and group singing, western dance and so on which mesmerized the audience.
