Bantwal, Jul 21: Government directives are not adhered to in the Rs 68.40 lac aid that was released under the 13th Finance Project for the year 2011–12. In this backdrop, the opposition Congress party opposed the move to approve the issue at the general body meeting of the town council.
The general body meeting was chaired by town councillor Dinesh Bhandary who presented the issue of active projects prepared for utilizing Rs 68.40 lac for the approval of the town council.
Opposition Congress party member Riyaz Hussein alleged that the information on approval of funds was not given to all members, and the government directives are not followed in this regard.
Other opposition Congress party members alleged that there has been partiality in allocating the funds and Congress ward members are being sidelined.
Bhandary clarified that the funds are being distributed to three each Congress and BJP wards, and one Muslim League-backed member without any prejudice.
Drainage project officer Shobha was taken to task by the council over the incomplete drainage works in the town council and bad roads in town.
The issue of garbage dumping at the circle in B C Road, which is causing stench and posing health hazards, came up for discussion and Bhandary said that the garbage issue will be solved once the garbage disposal unit becomes functional in Kanchinadka in the limits of Sajipanadu.
Deputy councillor Janaki Gopal, steering committee president Vasanti Gangadhar, and CEO R V Jattanna were present at the dais.
Council members Govind Prabhu, Devdas Shetty, Mohammed Nandarabettu, Gopal Suvarna, Ravi Melkar, Mohammed Sherief, Yashodha, Swarnalata Malli, Malati Ganesh, Iqbal Goodinabali, Aminabhi Sheikh, and Bhaskar Tailor participated in the discussion.
