Mangalore, Jul 16: The District Congress Committee (DCC) staged a road blockade on Umikhana–Kandevu main road in Alape ward here on Friday July 15, urging the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) to repair the interior roads under its jurisdiction as the roads are in a deplorable condition
The DCC, led by KPCC general secretary Ivan D’Souza, alleged that almost all the vital roads in every ward in the city are withered and this inconveniences the passengers travelling in city buses. The MCC has been showing step-motherly treatment to Congress-administered wards by not releasing developmental funds.
Former mayor and Corporator Krishnappa Mendon said that he had never followed any step-motherly treatment during his service of 21 years. “The local Corporator has been indifferent to Congress-administered wards in allocating funds since the past three years,” alleged Mendon.
AICC member P V Mohan, KPCC member Suresh Ballal, corporator Mohan Padil, district youth Congress president Pravinchandra Alva, secretary Mitun Rai, Rogina Lobo, Santosh Saldanha, Henry D’Souza Kulshekar, Navin Tandevu, Denis D’Silva, Narayan Kotian, Prabhakar Shriyan, Shobha Keshav, Ramesh U G, Krishna D Anchan, Aziz Krishnapura, and Padmanabha were present on the occasion.
Pravinchandra welcomed the gathering. Navinchandra Suvarna proposed the vote of thanks. Hundreds of local residents, city bus and auto rickshaw drivers, and DCC party activists staged the road blockade stalling traffic for nearly half-an- hour.
The DCC has set a deadline of 10 days for MCC authorities to conduct urgent repairs on all interior roads in the city. They also threatened an aggravated protest in case of any further delay.
