Mangaluru: St Aloysius College bids farewell to non-teaching staff

Mangaluru, Apr 5: St Aloysius College (Autonomous) held a farewell and felicitation programme for two of their dedicated and committed non-teaching staff members, Margaret Rita D’Costa, the office manager and Herman Joslie Mascarenhas from the maintenance department. The programme was held at Robert Sequeira Hall, LCRI block of the college.

Margaret Rita D’Costa served the college office for 35 years and Herman Joslie Mascarenhas served in the maintenance section for 24 years. Both of them were honoured by Fr Melwin Pinto, SJ, rector of St Aloysius Institutions; Dr Praveen Martis SJ, principal, St Aloysius College; Dr Alwyn D’Sa, registrar; Fr Vincent Pinto SJ, finance officer of the college in the presence of Ramachandra Bashri, senior office staff and Oswald DSouza, the husband of Rita D’Costa.

During the felicitation, the citation of Margaret Rita D’Costa was read by Chandrakala and the profile on Rita was delivered by Jemmi D’Souza. The citation on Herman Mascarenhas was read by Anil Lobo and the profile of Herman was read by Apoline Rodrigues. After being honoured, both of them expressed their gratitude to the management for appointing them to serve this prestigious institution.

Dr Praveen Martis appreciated Rita D’Costa for serving for the last 35 years in this institution with dedication and commitment. He also commended her three best qualities like commitment towards work, loyalty to the management and faith in God. She used to start her day after praying in St Aloysius Chapel. Her work in the office was appreciated by her colleagues as well as the management. Speaking about Herman Mascarenhas, the principal mentioned that he was a handyman, having a unique skilled personality and a person with care for the environment. His skills in gardening and carpentry need to be appreciated. He also had great love towards dogs and cats.

Speaking on the occasion, Fr Melwin Pinto said, “Losing such employees after their service for such long years is a sad moment for us. Rita was a dedicated and hardworking staff in the office and Herman showed great love towards the environment and animals. We need to follow these two people who were so committed, dedicated and inspirational.”

RJ Abhishek from Radio Sarang compered the programme. Sylvia D’Silva welcomed the gathering. Vinitha Shilpa Pais rendered the vote of thanks.
