Mangaluru, Mar 31: St Agnes College (Autonomous) will conduct Agnofest ‘Chaduranga’, an annual national level fest on Monday, April 3 at its campus.
Addressing the media, staff coordinator Dr Zubaida H said, “Our college will be organising Agnofest for students of both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Every year, the fest assumes a theme according to the flavour or mood of the year and this time the fest is titled ‘Chaduranga- one species, many hues’.
“Kantara fame actor Swaraj Shetty (Guruva) and Vilas Nayak, Asia’s fastest painter, will be inaugurating the fest on Monday April 3, at Mother Mary Aloysia Centenary Auditorium in the morning. Vathika Pai, entrepreneur- Nirmala Travels, is the chief guest for the valedictory programme will be held on the same day.
“The fest has 9 events: Shirshike (Chaduranga Champion), Khaadya (Cook Without Fire), Swaroopa (Dance Drama), Krithi (Invention). Anisku Madhyama (Mock Press). Avinya (Product Launch), Samhodhane (Research Poster), Vaagsamara (Debate), and Rachana (Reel Making). There is a special event titled ‘Hejjege Hejje', a competition with cash prizes for renowned dance troupes of Mangaluru to showcase their talent,” she said.
Staff coordinator Prof Raveena Mascarenhas, student president UG Adeline Renjal, student president PG Mahima Varghese, and vice president of department of Arts Chaya were present.
St Agnes College, Mangaluru, established in 1921, is the first Catholic women's college in South India and second in the country. St Agnes Centre for Postgraduate Studies and Research was established in the year 2008. In a radical move towards integrated education, the college has admitted male students during the current academic year. The college has the singular distinction of being the first in Mangalore University to be re-accredited by NAAC with an A+ Grade, CGPA 3.65/4 in the fourth cycle.
