Mangaluru, Mar 15: A few places in coastal Karnataka experienced light to moderate thunder showers on Tuesday bringing some relief from the sweltering heat that the region has been experiencing for the last few days.
A few places including Mangaluru were overcast with clouds but the conditions were hot with fog seen in the morning.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), parts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi districts are likely to experience moderate rainfall in the next three days.
In the last few days the coastal districts recorded a rise in temperature accompanied by hot winds. Besides, the IMD had warned of a high tide in the seas.
Now, with the region likely to receive moderate rainfall the coastal districts are likely to become a bit cooler. The water level in the river is also likely to rise and result in giving some relief to residents who were in danger of facing drinking water shortage during the summer.
The IMD has issued a 'yellow alert' in the coastal districts. According to the forecast, many places in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall from March 15 to 17.
The region is also likely to see a further dip in maximum temperature following the recent thunder showers in Mangaluru. The coastal city recorded a maximum temperature of 34.2 degrees celsius and a minimum of 24.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
