Mangalore: Inculcate Respect for Tulu in Children - Paltadi Ramakrishna Achar

Mangalore, Jun 17: "Students are interested in learning Tulu at schools but educators are still hesitant to encourage Tulu learning. They should build interest for the language in students," said Tulu Sahitya Academy president Paltadi Ramakrishna Achar.

He was speaking at the release ceremony of the book ‘Mariyalaagada Tulu Mahaneeyaru’ written by M Ratna Kumar on Wednesday June 15. State Tulu Sahitya Academy, Akhila Bharata Tulu Okkuta along with Tulu Koota organized the programme at Sahitya Academy hall. The book details the life and times of Tulu Koota founder president S R Hedge.

"Once Tulu was an unfashionable language and people hesitated to speak in Tulu, but now the scenario has changed. If Tulu has to exist, it is necessary that children are taught the language," Achar added.

Sangli Tulu Koota president Divakar Shetty presided over the programme.

Yakshagaana Bayalata Academy president Kumbla Sundara Ram, Tulu Koota president B Damodar Nisarga, Lokesh M, Ratna Kumar and academy registrar Chandra Hasa Rai were present.
