Udupi, Jun 17: Thieves struck at two jewellery shops located in Brahmavar here on Wednesday June 15 and stole jewellery worth Rs 10 lac.
The thieves broke the lock on the shutter of Sri Devi Jewellery and decamped with 5 kg silver jewellery worth about Rs 25,000. A complaint has been lodged by Sitaram Achar, the owner of the shop, with Brahmavar police.
In another incident, thieves broken the lock on the shutter of Jyothi Jewellers, Brahmavar, and decamped with 80 grams of gold ornaments and 16 kg of silver ornaments all worth about Rs 9 lac. A complaint has been lodged by Dayanand Acharya, owner of the shop, at Kota police station.
Although the thieves were successful in breaking open the shutter of Sri Devi Jewellery, they did not get any gold ornaments. The owner had placed all the displayed stock in the safe locker as security cameras were not functioning for over 12 days.
Police sources informed that the thefts took place between 2 am to 3 am on Thursday June 16.
ASP M V Venkateshappa, DySP Jayant Shetty, Brahmavar circle inspector Krishnamurti, Kota police inspector Mahesh Prasad, Kundapur assistant sub inspector Ramnivas Sefat, and Kundapur CPI Madan Gaonkar arrived on the spot. The fingerprint experts have arrived along with the canine squad and investigations are underway.
