Udupi, Feb 27: Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) is set to host a week-long residential training program and science exhibition to celebrate National Science Day, which marks the discovery of the ‘Raman Effect’ by Sir CV Raman on February 28, 1928. The programme is aimed at spreading awareness about the importance of science and its impact on various aspects of life, in line with the theme for the year, 'Global Science for Global Well-being'. The event will take place from February 23 to 28, at the Manipal School of Life Sciences (MSLS) campus.

The science exhibition will be inaugurated by Dr HS Ballal, pro-chancellor, MAHE in the presence of Dr BS Satish Rao, director, MSLS, other faculty, and students. As part of the celebrations, MAHE will host around 18 top students from nearby Academy schools who will receive hands-on exposure in genetics, chemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, plant sciences, microbiology, bioinformatics, etc. The students will also have early morning physical exercise sessions to inculcate the importance of a healthy mind in a healthy body. They will visit the Manipal-GoK Bioincubator, Planetarium, Experience Theatre, and other facilities at MAHE Manipal. The week-long training programme will culminate in a science exhibition on February 27 and 28, at the Manipal School of Life Sciences (MSLS), where the students will demonstrate some of the more than 70 models that will be on display.

According to Dr HS Ballal, pro-chancellor, MAHE, "National Science Day is a reminder of the incredible impact that science has had on our lives, and the potential it holds for shaping our future. By nurturing a love for science in our youth, we are ensuring that the next generation of scientists and innovators can continue to make ground-breaking discoveries for the betterment of society."

Dr BS Satish Rao, director, of MSLS added, "The training program and science exhibition are an opportunity for us to showcase the cutting-edge research being conducted at MSLS and to engage with young students who are eager to learn about the wonders of science. By fostering a curiosity for science, we hope to inspire the next generation to push the boundaries of scientific knowledge and make a positive impact on the world."

The models on display at the exhibition will cover a range of topics including the solar system, cell cycle, vaccination, DNA fingerprinting, gene editing, human evolution, photosynthesis, bioluminescence, artificial intelligence, and laser-based displays, among others. The exhibition is expected to attract hundreds of school students from nearby areas, who will visit the MSLS campus as part of the celebrations.

MAHE hopes that the residential training programme and science exhibition will inspire young minds to explore and pursue science as a career. The institution is committed to continuing the tradition of celebrating National Science Day in the coming years with renewed vigour and enthusiasm.
