Bopanna-Qureshi Go Down Fighting in French Open


Paris, Jun 2 (IANS): India's Rohan Bopanna and and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan Wednesday went down fighting to top seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan in the men's doubles quarterfinal of the French open tennis Wednesday.

The fifth-seeded India-Pakistan pair lost 7-6(2), 3-6, 6-7(3) in a nearly two-hour battle.

The match was suspended Tuesday due to bad light at 5-5 in the deciding set. The tie-break went with serve to 3-3, when Mike hit a forehand winner and the 2003 titlists went on to win three more points in a row.

The Californian twins had beaten the India-Pakistan pair in their maiden Grand Slam appearance in the 2010 US Open.

The Bryans will next meet Colombian Juan Sebastian Cabal and Eduardo Schwank of Argentina in the semi-finals.

Second seeds Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor challenge fourth seeds Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic in the other semi-final.
