Two burnt alive, four injured in LPG cylinder blast near Nelamangala

Bengaluru, May 1: In a horrifying incident near Adakamarahalli in Nelamangala town of Bengaluru North Taluk, two people were burnt alive and four others critically injured in a fire triggered by an LPG cylinder leak on Thursday morning.

The deceased have been identified as 50-year-old Nagaraju and 50-year-old Srinivas. The injured — Abhisheik Gouda, Shivashankar, Lakshmi Devi, and Basana Gouda — are undergoing treatment at Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru.

According to the Madanayakanahalli Police, who have taken up the investigation, the fire broke out due to a gas leak while changing an LPG cylinder in a rented house.

Nagaraju, originally from Ballari, was living in the house with his wife Lakshmi Devi and their children Abhisheik Gouda and Basana Gouda. During the replacement of an empty cylinder with a new one, Abhisheik reportedly failed to notice the gas leak.

Police suspect that a traditional lamp lit in front of a deity in the house ignited the leaked gas, causing an explosion that engulfed the house in flames within moments.

In the chaos, Lakshmi Devi and her younger son Basana Gouda managed to escape the blaze. Nagaraju and Abhisheik, however, were trapped inside. Upon hearing the commotion, neighbour Srinivas and house owner Shivashankar rushed to help.

In a tragic turn, while trying to rescue the victims and douse the flames, Srinivas got trapped and was burnt alive. Abhisheik sustained serious burn injuries but managed to escape.

An official from the local police said, “The fire was intense and spread rapidly. It appears to be an unfortunate case of negligence during cylinder replacement. We are waiting for a forensic report to confirm the exact cause.”
