Mangaluru, Dec 11: Activists of right-wing group Bajrang Dal tried to assault a couple belonging to different communities, who were roaming around near Kottara Chowki in the city in late night on Saturday December 10.
According to details available, around 12 midnight on Saturday, a girl was found in the company of a youth, both belonging to different communities. They were stopped and asked questions by the members of Bajrang Dal. The couple said that they had come to a hotel to have dinner. They said the same to the police who were on the spot. But the members of Bajrang Dal tried to assault them accusing them of lying.
It is said that police intervened and brought the situation under control. It is said that the couple went to the police station and then left from there. It is also known that some Bajrang Dal members were taken into custody by the police and later released. This incident took place under the limits of Urwa police station.
Moral policing is crossing its limits in the city. In the past week, three such incidents are reported. Public is also accusing city police of not taking any action to curtail moral policing.
