Dubai, May 20 (IANS/WAM): India was Dubai's main import, export and re-export trading partner for the first two months of 2011, while the emirate's non-petroleum direct international trade shot up 31 percent to 113 billion dirhams ($30 billion) compared to 86 billion dirhams in the same period last year.

During January and February, the direct trade volume between the two countries jumped to more than 36 billion dirhams, a report by Dubai Customs said.

Ahmed Butti Ahmed, executive chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone, and director general of Dubai Customs said the report announced at the end of February showed a highest trade value record during the first two months of this year compared to the same period in last five years consecutively.

All major trade activities, driven by growth in exports, re-exports and imports recorded positive turnovers during this period.

China came second in Dubai's imports with 7.4 billion dirhams and the US was at third position with 4.8 billion dirhams.
