Chaos as computer systems crash at Mumbai airport, passengers hit

Mumbai, Dec 1 (IANS): Chaos prevailed at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMA) here after a computer system failure that hit check-ins and other operations for all airlines on Thursday, sources said.

Massive crowds of passengers were seen sitting or moving around in the Terminal 2 due to the systems glitch, the exact details of which are not yet clear.

However, officials said that the issue is being rectified and the systems are likely to be made operational soon, though no statement has been issued in this matter yet.

Meanwhile, harried passengers took to social media to vent their ire at the delays, the overcrowding and even advised other passengers to reach the airport well in time to avoid missing flights, etc.

Too much dependence on technology & AI will be a disaster if this example is taken into account. Let us think natural disasters like cyclones, earth quakes, & avalanches will kill all possible alternatives to normal systems. Let us assume some hackers sabotage our systems, our enemy countries doing the same forcing us to go back to our stone age. A balance between the 2 should be a right option. I remember an incidence when our late PM Vajpayee who was fond of foreign cars sat inside a new car & the doors wouldn't open & our roadside mechanic broke open the glass & opened the door with a tool invented by stone age man the Hammer.
