Understanding Gandhi:
Today Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi does not remain confined to India alone. The profoundity of his ideas and the moral conviction with which he pursued them made him an exceptional global visionary. The nationalist movement in India that the Mahatma led, perhaps, is the only instance in human history that achieved freedom through non-violence. Ahimsa, Satya and Swaraj are the three cardinal principles around which he conceptualized his philosophy of political practice.

The incredible vibrance of his teachings and the astonishing ethical vigour that it exerts compels generation after generation to engage with the concerns that Gandhi represented and tease out their contemporary meaning and significance. Resultantly, we confront a formidable global scholarship on Gandhi today, offering divergent perspectives on what Gandhi said and did.

It is in this spirit Nehru Study Centre of Mangalore University, in association with the Department of Political Science, St. Aloysius College (Autonomous) Mangaluru, is organizing a one-day national seminar entitled 'Understanding Gandhi' on October 29. Scholars from different parts of Karnataka are expected to take part in it.
The institute takes the opportunity to invite interested participants for the programme. A copy of the invitation is attached herewith.
