Puttur, Oct 28: Department of Computer Science, St Philomena College Puttur in association with the IT club of the college organized a book release programme on October 27 at Spandana Seminar Hall. Shiva Prasad, a member of the publishing team Vrinda Publishing House, Hyderabad was the chief guest, Dr A P Radhakrishna, vice-principal participated as the guest of honour and Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, the principal was the president of the programme.
Shiva Prasad of Vrinda Publishing House presented a brief overview of the books that are published on the NEP syllabus. In his address, Dr A P Radhakrishna said, “In NEP syllabus, emphasis is given to the holistic development of the learners. Textbooks are believed to as the foundation of academic instruction. The books published today will help the students to prepare their learning material easily.”
“Writing skills have gone to the dark these days for many reasons. The teachers have to read, write and re-write the contents several times. Books written 2-3 years before have become outdated these days. Book writing and publishing is a difficult and challenging task. But in reality, books are considered as an authentic source of knowledge” said Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, the principal of the college in his presidential remarks. Two books titled 'Fundamentals of Computers' and 'Database Management Systems' were co-authored by Rajeshwari M and Geetha Poornima K, assistant professors in the dept of Computer Science St Philomena College, and the other two books titled 'Programming in C' and 'Computers and Communication Networks' were co-authored by Prakash Kumar P, assistant professor, dept of Computer Science, Vivekananda College Puttur and Arun F Sequeira, assistant professor, dept of Computer Science, SDM College of Business management Mangaluru were released on this occasion.
Karthik K R and team rendered the Prayer Song, Vinayachandra, HoD, Computer Science, welcomed and introduced the guest, Rajeshwari M proposed a vote of thanks and the programme was compered by Sowmya, assistant professor, dept of Computer Science. Abdul Rahman G, librarian was present on the stage. The programme was attended by 120 students of II BCA.
