Mangaluru, Oct 13: A career guidance session was organised at Lourdes Central School by Lions Club Mangaluru, Mangaladevi for the students of class 10 on October 13 in the school AV room. The session dealt with essential topics like study skills, stress management and importance of mindfulness etc. The session began with a prayer song by the school choir.
Principal Fr Robert D’Souza welcomed the gathering and introduced the guest speakers, resource person professor Ronald Pinto, director of Institute For Individual Development; Ln Anil Das, president of Lions Club ; Ln Mallika Alva, secretary of Lions Club; Ln Anitha Gomes; Ln Ronald Gomes, former district Governor; Ln Sanjyoti Sheikha, zonal chairperson; Ln Rammohan Alva, district cabinet to the audience. The guests were honoured with flowers by Deepa D’Souza, Tanishka Dharmaraj of class 10C and Deep Mascarenhas of class 10 C.
Ln Anil Das briefed about the importance of social service just before the session began. After which, Ln Ronald Gomes shared success story of Lions Club Mangaluru in rendering service to the society. The session was initiated by professor Ronald Pinto. He urged the students to dream bigger by quoting Swami Vivekananda’s 'Arise, Awake and Stop not till the goal is reached'. He started with an ‘ICE Breaking SONG ’. He urged the students to really think about their decisions and introspect what they want and what they can excel in. He spoke about the bigger picture and long term goals dealing with job opportunities and what employers look for in a candidate. He put skills on a higher pedestal than education. He apprised the students with various study streams available and also advised the students to take aptitude tests before deciding their career paths.
Students interacted with the resource person and clarified their doubts. The session was ended with the vote of thanks by T G Laasya of class 10 B. The programme was compered by Pranava of class 10D. The entire session was fruitful and the students were greatly enriched.
