Udupi, Oct 12: The annual conference of the Association of Otolaryngologists of India, South Zone, Karnataka will be held at Dr TMA Pai halls, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal between October 14 and 16.
Manipal Academy of Higher education, Manipal (MAHE), Association of Otolaryngologists of India, Manipal-Udupi, Kasturba Medical College, and The Department of ENT-Head & Neck surgery branch are jointly organising this year’s annual event.
The annual press conference will be inaugurated on October 14, Friday by vice-chancellor Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh. The event will be presided over by Dr Satheesh Bhandary, vice-chancellor of Nitte University and Dr Jaspal Singh Sahota, former vice-chancellor of Manipal University College, Malaysia as guests of honour. The conference is expected to see about 700 ENT surgeons with over 50 invited speakers delivering talks on various recent advances in this field. The major point of emphasis will be the advances in treatment for hearing impairment like cochlear implantation and auditory brain stem implants.
The event will include 10 orations, which will be delivered by prominent International and National faculty. In addition, there would be 9-panel discussions, 8 symposia, and various invited talks. Over 450 delegates have submitted abstracts of their scientific projects hoping to take part in competitive oral/ e-poster presentations leading to over 10 gold medals.
There will also be a separate session on the management of head and neck cancers and innovations in ENT. Dr Hazarika AOIK Traveling Fellowship will offer financial assistance to two postgraduate students pursuing research in this field. The South zone SOI ENT quiz has attracted 38 teams from different medical colleges in South India and will face preliminary and final rounds to bag the trophy.
Speaking about the event vice-chancellor Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, Manipal Academy of Higher Education said, ”This conference aims to promote the knowledge among the students and researchers in the area of ENT, Head & Neck surgery.”
In addition, a panel discussion will be conducted to discuss how to improve the outcomes of cochlear implantation in the government-sponsored program. The prominent speakers for the conference are Prof Simon Lloyd from Manchester, United Kingdom, Dr Naveen Bhandarkar, USA, Dr Jeevanan from Malaysia, Dr Alok Thaker, AIIMS, Delhi, Mohnish Griver, Jaipur, Dr Mohan Kameshwaran, Chennai and Dr Prathamesh Pai from Tata Memorial cancer center, Mumbai.
