Mangaluru, Oct 6: Milagres PU College, Hampankatta, inaugurated its Junior Red Cross unit and anti-drug club for the academic year 2022-23 on September 30. Around 120 students gathered in the PU College auditorium.
Sr Aileen Mathias, vice principal, Athena college of Nursing was the chief guest, and she inaugurated the Junior Red Cross unit and Anti-Drug Club by lighting the lamp. In the inaugural address, she gave an insight into the origin of the Red Cross, the fundamental principles and various activities to be conducted by the Junior Red Cross Unit and Anti-Drug Club. Shé said today's youth are the driving force of tomorrow and they should be aware of the objectives of the red cross unit: first aid, organ donation, and being away from drugs.
She also demonstrated how to give first aid treatment and CPR during the emergency care and treatment of an injured or ill person before completing medical and surgical treatment.
Fr Michael Santhumyor, principal of Milagres Degree College, presided over the inaugural program. In his presidential address, he said, all the students should take an active part in the co-curricular activities of the college and motivated them to say ‘no to drugs. The principal of Milagres PU College, Melwin Vas administered the Junior Red Cross oath. NSS program officer Kiran Dsouza welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief cuest.
The programme was compered by Ayisha Muzaina and the president of the student council Pavan P Shetty proposed the vote of thanks.
