Mangaluru, Oct 2: MCCS celebrated with reverence 153rd Gandhi Jayanthi on October 2. The students of grade IXC and D put up a befitting programme in honour of the birth anniversary of the father of our nation.
The programme commenced with the ‘All faith prayer.’ Students Ava and Nikita accorded a cordial welcome. The significance of the day was well articulated by the students Ronan and Maxin.
The vice principal Sr Lathika, Sr Supreetha, teacher Vidya and head girl Benita Rodrigues paid homage to the apostle of ‘peace’ by garlanding his portrait coupled with the singing of a bhajan which was dear to his heart.
The vice principal Sr Lathika in her message urged the students to always recall the Mahatma’s struggle towards a ‘free India’ with the weapons of truth, peace and non-violence. She also advised the students to imbibe the legacy of ‘ahimsa’ left behind by Ghandhiji, thereby promote in building a peaceful nation. The vote of thanks was delivered by Nayelli Rodrigues.
The day was further meaningfully utilized by ‘Shramadaan’. While the junior students did some work in their respective homes as part of shramadaan, the seniors from grade IX onwards along with the staff went on a cleaning drive in and around the vicinity of the school.
The Scouts and Guides ‘cleanliness drive’ reached up to the helipad area. The NCC, and other Scouts and Guides along with their mentors were enthused to clean up the seashore of the Sasihithlu beach. Refreshments were served at the end of the programme. The birth celebration and the cleanliness drive ended on a note of inculcating peace and responsibility towards our nation.
