Mangaluru: Children's palliative and Hospice centre to come up at Mudipu

Media Release

Mangaluru, Sep 7: Tapasya Foundation is a public charitable trust to provide benefits to all patients in need without making a distinction based on caste, creed, religion, gender or race.

The need of the hour is to bring on board strong-willed like-minded volunteers along with the trained nursing staff to provide helping hands led by expert, well-trained and well-experienced doctors. This is what Tapasya Foundation envisions to have in its facility. To take this noble initiative forward, the foundation seeks support and guidance from people with all humility.

Tapasya Foundation intends to begin the project (Phase 1) with a ‘Home away from Home’ concept for paediatric cancer patients coming from the surrounding areas of Mangaluru, who find it difficult to travel back to their hometown during the treatment period, due to financial constraints.

This centre will operate as an interdisciplinary facility aimed at optimising the quality of life for these children by catering to their Hospice / Palliative needs as well.

Furthermore, the foundation is planning to install a train compartment along with a platform, in collaboration with the Indian Railways and set up a Butterfly Park to turn it into a play area for the children, along with a host of other activities, so that they have a positively engaging time at the centre.

Phase 2 and 3 will include cancer patients of all age groups.

The trust is a registered public charitable trust with Registration Number: DOC - 214 - 2019-20, In addition the trust has been registered with the MCA office of the Registrar of companies for undertaking CSR activities (Reg no – CSR 00011644 dt 20/07/2021).

In order to set up the facility, the foundation has already acquired a parcel of land measuring 2.65 acres near Infosys campus at Mudipu and have initiated the construction of the building. The road construction work leading to the site has already been completed.

Tapasya Foundation is endowed with the responsibility of collecting an estimated amount of Rs 7 crore, with an annual recurring expense of Rs 1 crore. They are looking for support and generous donations towards this project which is the need of the hour. Donations for the projects are eligible for income tax exemptions under sec 80G (ITBA/COM/F/17/2021/1027374037(1) (PAN: AADTT7586K).

About Tapasya Foundation

Sabitha Shetty and the late Anantha Krishna Bhat, former chairman and chief executive officer of Karnataka Bank Ltd, coincidentally thought along the same lines that cancer patients deserve peace and serenity during their last lag of journey before they fade into oblivion. Thus, the idea of a larger-than-life Palliative Care Centre was born.

In the blink of an eye, Tapasya Foundation came into being with a vision to provide affected cancer patients not only medications but also surreal tranquil surroundings to help them cope up with an end that is imminent.

Tapasya Foundation believes in providing the best of free consultations and care whenever and where possible with the sole aim of patients’ care in mind. In addition, Tapasya Foundation also provides day care and respite care for the needy families of those who are at the receiving end of cancer.
