Mangaluru, Aug 19: The members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday August 18, submitted a memorandum to Akshy Sridhar, commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) urging the cleaning of roads and repair of potholes across the city.

They stated in the memorandum, “We, the members of the Aam Aadmi Party, wish to hereby express our anguish regarding the poor maintenance of the civic infrastructure of the city. It is indeed sad to note that many of the city's roads and street lights are in pathetic condition. The roads are badly damaged, mainly due to ongoing work, rainfall, and poor quality work.

“The roads in many localities have not been repaired for a long time. There are potholes and ditches on the roads everywhere, and their condition only gets worse during the monsoon. This results in road accidents, and during the night time, even pedestrians sometimes stumble. Moreover, the water accumulating in these potholes and pits provides a breeding ground for mosquitoes, resulting in outbreaks of vector-borne diseases like malaria and dengue.

“In many places, the street lights are out of order and the streets are dark. Such places are unsafe for women, children, senior citizens, etc., and there is a fear of crime in these areas. There have been some incidents of chain snatching in the evening hours, and the criminals can escape easily under the cover of darkness.

“We, therefore, request you to take the necessary corrective action, so that the people of Mangaluru can enjoy good roads and street lights.

“On behalf of the concerned citizens of Mangaluru,” they said in the memorandum.

District AAP president Santhosh Kamath, general secretary Venugopal Pucchapaady, national committee member Ashoka Yedamale, Shanon Pinto, Gerald Towers, Jayaprakash Rao, Mangaluru north AAP president Naveen Chandra Poojary, Benet Navitha Crasta, Rony Crasta, K N Srinivas, Avren D’Souza, Cyril Jeevan, Valsa Jeevan and others were present.
