Kundapur, Aug 18: The 14th Bhoomi Habba was celebrated under the leadership of Koraga Abhivrudhi Sangagala Okoota Karnataka and Kerala at Kundapur Ambedkar Bhavan.
Udupi deputy commissioner Kurma Rao who inaugurated the programme said that Koraga community has campaigned hard for land and obtained about 450 acres of it. “Several people in the community have made achievements in farming. Many of their students have done well in education. Tuition centres are opened in their colonies to encourage them. The issues preventing them from obtaining title deeds for the land approved at Shiriara gram limits will be solved immediately after discussing with the tahsildar,” he said.
President of the Koraga Abhivrudhi Sanghagala Okkoota Ammani Koraga Ablikatte presided over the programme. President of municipal council Veena Bhasker Mendon hoisted the flag. Zilla panchayat chief executive officer Professor Prasanna started the programme after watering a coconut tree sapling. Senior community member Gauri Koraga lit the festival lamp.
Mangaluru university assistant professor Dr Sabita Gundmi, ITDP project coordinating officer Dood Phir, Kundapur advocate Ravikiran Murdeshwar, social welfare officer Raghavendra Varnekar, Koraga Abhivrudhi Sangha Kundapur zone president Shekhar Koraga, former district committee president Dogra Koraga, Shobha Bantwal, Gopala Kasargod, Suresh Puttur, festival committee in charge president, member of municipal council Prabhaker V were present.
Chief Secretary K Putran welcomed and gave an introduction. Koraga Abhivridhi Sanga Kokkarne secretary Suchitra rendered a vote of thanks. Sunanda and team sang a devotional song. Surendra Kalthur and Vimala Kalthur compered the programme.
A procession rally was held at Kundapur prior to the programme.
