Wellington, Apr 12 (PTI) Former Australia coach John Buchanan is set to become the first director of cricket of New Zealand, according to a report.
The job was created to oversee New Zealand Cricket's entire high-performance programme, which includes the Black Caps.
Buchanan is the clear frontrunner for the position and the NZC will meet on Friday to rubber-stamp the former Australian coach's appointment as the organisation's first director of cricket, a report in the 'Star Times' said.
Former England coach Duncan Fletcher, who last year spent some time in camp with the Black Caps during their tour to the subcontinent, and India's World Cup-winning coach Gary Kirsten were the other names linked to the role, the report said.
Buchanan was the Australian coach between 1999 and 2007 and since then he has worked as a cricket consultant.
