Gurugram, Apr 29: The women's final of the ongoing Global Indian Pravasi Kabaddi League (GI-PKL) is set, with Tamil Lioness and Telugu Cheetahs emerging victorious after captivating semifinal clashes at Gurugram University today. Tamil Lioness showcased their dominance against Bhojpuri Leopardess, while Telugu Cheetahs proved too strong for Punjabi Tigress. The two formidable teams will now battle for the coveted women's title on Wednesday.
In the first semifinal, Tamil Lioness delivered a commanding performance, overpowering Bhojpuri Leopardess with a decisive 43-21 victory. Displaying all-round prowess, Tamil Lioness amassed an impressive 26 raid points and 10 tackle points throughout the match. Their strategic gameplay included forcing three super tackles and securing four crucial all-out points, allowing them to maintain control from start to finish. Bhojpuri Leopardess struggled to keep pace, managing only 18 raid points and a mere two tackle points, ultimately succumbing to a clinical win by Tamil Lioness.
The second semifinal witnessed a more balanced encounter, with Telugu Cheetahs ultimately outclassing Punjabi Tigress 25-16. While both teams displayed similar raiding prowess, each scoring 11 raid points, Telugu Cheetahs edged ahead with a strong defensive showing, securing 10 tackle points and executing four all-outs. Their robust defensive setup proved to be the crucial difference, effectively stifling the Punjabi Tigress' attack and ensuring a comfortable victory. The Tigress struggled to make inroads, failing to register any all-out or super tackle points.
The grand finals of the Global Indian Pravasi Kabaddi League (GI-PKL) for both men and women will take center stage at Gurugram University in Gurugram (Haryana) on Wednesday. The ultimate showdown will commence with the men's final at 7:00 pm IST, featuring a clash between Marathi Vultures and Tamil Lions. This will be followed by the highly anticipated women's final at 8:00 pm IST.
The semifinals witnessed the presence of Rajesh Nagar, the Minister of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs for the Government of Haryana, as the Chief Guest. He felicitated the Players of the Match in both semifinals and lauded the spirited performances of all the participating teams. Kanthi D. Suresh, President of the Holistic International Pravasi Sports Association (HIPSA), along with GI-PKL co-founders Karthik Dammu and Sohan Tusir, also graced the semifinals with their presence.
