Mangaluru, Aug 15: Milagres institutions celebrated Independence Day on August 15. The programme commenced with the guard of honor headed by the NCC cadets of Degree College. Students and faculty of the Central School, High School, PU and Degree College assembled for the day. Alphonse Dsouza, ex-service personnel was the chief guest of the day. Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, correspondent, Milagres Institutions, Fr Michael L Santhumayor, principal, degree college, Fr Udaya Fernandes, principal Milagres Central School, Stany Beretto, incharge vice principal, High School, Melwin Vas, principal, PU college were present on the occasion.
The chief guest of the day Alphonse Dsouza, unfurled the National Flag which was led by the National Anthem by the gathering. In his message he spoke about the importance of the day and remembered the sacrifice by the freedom fighters.
The invocation was led by the students of the PU college. Fr Michael L Santhumayor welcomed the gathering. The student representative of High School spoke on the significance of the day. president Fr Bonaventure Nazareth spoke about the great ideals of the freedom fighters and their sacrifice and significance of tri colour flag, in his message.
The patriotic song was sung by the students of Central School and Degree College. Stany Beretto proposed the vote of thanks. Jostan Dsouza compered the programme.
On the occasion, the students of Degree College conducted cleaning campaign in the surroundings of Milagres vicinity.
