Panaji, April 7 (IANS) For Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik, work perhaps begins at 'home' -- his two sons draw salaries as his personal aides.
A written reply by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat to the Goa assembly Wednesday lists Ritesh and Roy Naik as personal aides of the minister, drawing Rs.29,441 and Rs.19,904 respectively as monthly salaries.
While Ritesh has been listed as Ravi Naik's "private secretary", the written reply shows that younger son Roy draws salary as a "personal assistant".
"Their appointments are on ad-hoc basis and are cleared by the General Administration department," the written reply states.
Interestingly, the home minister's "personal assistant" Roy has been linked to the Israeli mafia, by the international media as well as the opposition, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Fiona Mackeown, mother of sexually assaulted and slain British teenager Scarlett Keeling, has also told a local court during the trial of her daughter's assailants last year that Roy was linked to the drug mafia in Goa.
"I have been told that Ravi Naik is the head of the drug nexus along with his son, that policemen are also involved in the same. I started suspecting Ravi Naik immediately after the murder of my daughter," Fiona has said in her official statement recorded by the Goa Children's Court which is hearing the case.
Both Roy and Ravi have rubbished the allegations levelled against them.
