Mangalore, Apr 5: Bondel unit of Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) in the city, with the support and cooperation from the youth from the parish, organized a sports tournament, ‘ICYM Bondel Trophy – 2011’ for the parishes located within the city deanery and Episcopal deanery on Sunday April 3. The venue of the event was MGC High School ground.
The tournament began with prayer, rendered by the youth from the parish. Prashanth D’Souza welcomed the gathering. The tournament was inaugurated by Fr Antony Serrao. In his inaugural address, Fr Serrao exhorted the youth present to bring their hidden talent to the fore, and also to grow as strong pillars of the society.
Parish council vice president, Rudy Pinto, secretary, Reginald D’Souza, and ICYM president, Neville Dias, were also present.
Youth from ten parishes within the two deaneries participated in throw ball, volleyball, and tug-of-war events. A large gathering from different parishes, predominantly youngsters, watched the event. It was an event in which people from various parishes got an opportunity to come together under one roof, and exhibit their talents besides cheering the participants.
The valedictory ceremony was held at 4 pm. Assistant parish priest, Fr Rony Pinto, hailed the participants for the sportsmanship qualities they exhibited during the tournament. Pabambur circle police inspector, Valentine D’Souza, who was present, exhorted the youth to make up their minds to serve their mother land wholeheartedly, and to build their future carefully and efficiently. The function ended with Steven Noronha, sports secretary of ICYM Bondel unit, proposing vote of thanks. Prizes were handed over by the guests to the successful teams.

Throw ball: Winners – Bondel Parish. Runners up – Vamanjoor parish.
Volleyball: Winners – Bondel parish. Runners up – Vamanjoor parish.
Tug-of-war: Winners – Bondel parish. Runners up – Bajal parish.
