Mangaluru: Sikh community celebrates Guru Govind Singh Ji’s birth anniversary at Gurudwara

Mangaluru, Jan 5: The Sikh community in Mangaluru came together today to celebrate the birth anniversary of their 10th Guru, Guru Govind Singh Ji, at the Gurudwara Guru Singh Sabha Society near Kottara Chowki. Guru Govind Singh Ji, born on December 22, 1666, in Patna, Bihar, is remembered for his spiritual teachings and leadership.

The event saw the participation of prominent dignitaries. Congress president and former MLC Harish Kumar attended the celebrations and expressed his happiness after listening to the soulful Shabd Kirtan. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “I am delighted to know there is a Gurudwara here in Mangaluru. I thank Vicky Singh for inviting me to celebrate Guru Parv.”

Sadashiv Ullal, chairman of urban development, also visited the Gurudwara. “I came here to offer my respects, and I feel fortunate to be present on the birth anniversary of Guru Govind Singh Ji,” he said. He also fondly recalled his association with Dr Manmohan Singh, the former prime minister, adding, “I am proud to have worked with Shri Manmohan Singh for three years.”

The celebration included vibrant Bhajan Kirtan performed by Gurunam Singh Vicky, Amarjeet Singh, Gurmeet Singh Monty, Jitendra Singh, Shoorveer Singh, Harjinder Singh, Shubham Singh, Wrinkle Singh, Cintu Singh, Satpal Singh, Ripcy Singh, Harender Singh, and Manjeet Singh.

The event concluded with Ardaas and Hukamnama by the Gurudwara’s Granthi, Karam Singh Ji. Following the spiritual proceedings, Langar Prasad was served to all attendees at 1:30 pm, fostering a sense of unity and community.

The celebration highlighted the values of devotion, equality, and togetherness, which are central to the teachings of Guru Govind Singh Ji.
