Mangalore: Army Recruitment – Misunderstanding Causes Heartburn

Mangalore, Apr 5: The fitness test for sepoy (general duty) category of the Indian Army, as part of the recruitment rally of the army, was conducted at Mangala Stadium in the city on Monday April 4.

A number of aspirants, who had come from Bagalkot district to take part in the test, had to return disappointed as they were told that they were not eligible to appear for test here. They said they had come here based on a report that appeared in a Kannada daily, which said that candidates from Bagalkot district have to appear for fitness test here on Monday. Many of them had come from far of villages, spending lot of money and facing the inconvenience of having to spend a whole or part the night, waiting for the tests begin.

The officers at the venue said that they cannot accommodate candidates from other districts now by changing the programme. They advised the job aspirants to verify the correctness of press reports with Sainik Welfare Boards, district information offices, or office of the deputy commissioner.
