Udupi, Apr 2: Manipal University vice-chancellor Dr Ramanarayan, while inaugurating the two-day UGC sponsored national-level workshop on ‘Emerging Areas in Administration in College’ in collaboration with A J Institute of Management, Mangalore, at Crossland College, Brahmavar, on Friday April 1, opined that empowering people is critical to internationalization, global accreditation, and the higher demand for professionals.

He advised the administrators to be careful in three areas – availability, accessibility, and approachability. “One must be available to people, there should be free accessibility and the person must be ultimately approachable.  A good administrator must walk the talk, must have commitment, and be a continuous learner.  Leadership is about having a meaningful relationship among the head (the ability to think), emotion (the ability to hear) and skills (the hands).  All the three should go hand in hand,” added said Dr Ramanarayan.

Professor Mathew C Ninan, managing trustee, Priority Educational Foundation, said that the administrative staff has more to do than others as they are the public relation officers and their approach creates others’ opinion of others about an institution.  A workshop like this provides new insights to the administrators to perform better.

Workshop convener Mathai T I presented the workshop theme.
