Puttur, Apr 1: President of Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers Union, Raviraj Hegde, felt that the government will do well to sanction subsidy for cattle manure instead of chemical fertilizers. He was speaking after presiding over a meeting organized as part of the taluk level cattle fair organized by various organizations at Kadaba in the taluk on Thursday March 31.

“The government has been spending a large sum for subsidising chemical fertilizers. At the same time, it has been coming out with programmes to encourage farmers to undertake organic farming. If they get subsidy for organic manure, the farmers will automatically shift to organic farming. This will also indirectly encourage dairying activity,” he felt. He said that the union will write to the government, placing before it these ideas.

Puttur Agricultural Produce Market Committee president, Seetaram Gowda Posavanike, who inaugurated the meeting, wanted specific programmes aimed at drawing the youth towards agricultural and dairying activities. K Seetaram Rai Savanur, director of the union, who inaugurated the cattle fair, stressed the need to make proper use of all the by products of dairying, to make the activity more profitable.

The exhibition stall was inaugurated by director of the union, S B Jayaram Rai. Various leaders were present. Interaction on dairying with the participation of experts and dairy farmers, was also held.

President of exhibition committee, A B Manohar Rai, welcomed. Dr Ramakrishna Bhat presented the programme. Jayachandra Rai Kuntody proposed vote of thanks.
