New Delhi, March 31 (IANS): Leading low-cost carrier (LCC) IndiGo Thursday said it has selected Pratt and Whitney made engines to power its new fleet of 150 Airbus A320neo aircraft.
"The decision represents 300 firm PW1100G engines with options for additional engines," said the company in a statement.
The statement further said that it has also chosen the American company to provide maintenance for the 'PurePower' engines.
The company said the engines were chosen on the basis of their advantage of less fuel consumption and increased savings.
"The PurePower engine's benefits will allow us to make dramatic improvements in environmental performance with reduced emissions and significant savings in fuel consumption," said Aditya Ghosh, president, IndiGo.
Each of the LCCs A320neo aircraft will be powered by two 'PurePower PW1100G' engines which provide the benefits of double-digit reductions in fuel burn, environmental emissions, engine noise and operating costs.
Earlier, the budget carrier had created placed the biggest ever single firm order for large jets in global aviation history by signing a $15 billion deal with European aircraft manufacturer Airbus for buying 180 A320 aircraft.
"IndiGo has signed a memorandum of understanding for 180 eco-efficient Airbus A320 aircraft, of which 150 will be the neo option and 30 will be standard A320s," the company had said in a statement.
