Mangaluru: Patron feast celebrated at Carmel School

Mangaluru, Jul 22: The feast of the Lady of Mount Carmel is celebrated every year. On the day Carmel family recall Mother Mary’s motherly patronage, care, guidance and protection. On July 20, Carmel feast was celebrated in contemplative and joyous spirit of the feast.

The celebration began with a fervent prayer service by students of Grade 10 B and Carmel Blossoms under the guidance of Sonia Rani Rodrigues, thereby helping the audience to draw inspiration for their lives in imitation of Mary’s virtues—obedience, sacrifice, respect, prayer, charity and humility.

With cheerfulness and contentment, untiring enthusiastic dancers welcomed the gathering through rhythmic and graceful movements. The effects of pandemic on the education system and on the families and the role of Mother Mary in solving familial issues was beautifully portrayed in the skit entitled 'Miracle of Carmel'.

Western dances enthralled the congregation and left them spellbound. The students of class X B and Carmel Blossoms enacted a blissful and devotional skit based on the importance of Scapular and the story behind it, Carmelite devotion and the mission of apostolic carmel congregation in the field of education.

Sr Marie Lucy – joint secretary of St Ann’s Campus Institutions and superior of St Ann’s Convent spoke at length about Mary’s discernment, faithfulness, thoughtfulness and stated the ways of cultivating the virtues in daily lives. Sr Sarika – principal addressed the gathering with the message that one needs to trust god at all times. She further aided the children to reflect on Mary’s charity towards god and her neighbour.

Sister Violette - administrator through PPT accentuated on ‘Carmel is a Mountain', 'Carmel is a Fountain' and 'Carmel is a Garden'.

Spot games were conducted section wise and prizes were distributed. The programme ended with the distribution of sweets.

Princita, Sayeeda, Pooja, Nabeesa and Sharanya compered the programme. Sonia introduced Sr Marie Lucy and Janice Jimmy welcomed the gathering and Kanishka proposed the vote of thanks.
