Puttur, Mar 28: In an incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday March 27 at Guddettadka in Bajattur village near here, a PU Student, angered by the objection raised to his late-night television watching habit, injured his close relatives with a sickle, in a fit of rage. He has been identified as Dayanand (17), a native of Kabaka, and student of government PU College here.
The incident occurred at the house of the late Kukkappa Gowda in Guddettadka. Dayanand is the son of the second daughter of Kamala, wife of Kukkappa Gowda. He had come to his grandparents’ home to spend his holidays. Kamala lives in Guddettadka with two unmarried daughters. Kamala and her two daughters had objected to the habit of Dayanand in watching television programmes well past midnight, as it disturbed their sleep. Angered by the objection, Dayanand, who reportedly is naughty by nature, took a sickle and hit his grandmother, Kamala (56), who was sleeping, badly injuring her in the bargain. His aunts, Kusumavati (32) and aunt, Janaki (30), also were hit hard when they tried to protect their mother.
Dayanand, who started running after injuring his relatives, fell to the ground, and suffered head injuries. The neighbours, who came to know about the incident, immediately called the ambulance and policemen. A case was registered in Uppinangady police station. Circle inspector, B K Manjaiah, has taken up investigation. Dayanand, Kamala, and Janaki have been admitted into Wenlock Hospital Mangalore, while Kusumavati is being treated in a local hospital.
